ISLAMABAD – The federal government has approved a significant increase of Rs 5,000 in the quarterly stipend for eligible beneficiaries under the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) Kafalat initiative.
The move aimed at providing greater support to the low-income families across the country. Reports said the increase in quarterly payment is expected to benefit approximately 10.2 million BISP recipients across the country.
Authorities stated that the move aims to strengthen the social safety net and provide more substantial financial assistance to the most vulnerable segments of society.

The government has announced increasing the stipend amount from Rs14,500 to Rs19,500 and it will take effect from January 2027.

The initiative, which was launched in 2008, has emerged as the largest single cash transfer programme in Pakistan’s history. It has both short and long-term objectives.
The short term objective of the initiative is to protect marginalised people from negative effects of higher inflation, food crisis and poor economic growth.
The long term objective of program is to eradicate extreme and chronic poverty, along with women empowerment, as set out in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Latest statistics show financial assistance is provided to around 10 million deserving families across the country.
