DUBAI – International Cricket Council (ICC) announced that Scotland will replace Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup 2026. The decision comes after the Bangladesh team reportedly refused to play in India, sparking a major controversy in international cricket circles.
According to Indian media reports, the ICC had earlier given the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) a 24-hour deadline to resolve the matter. However, when the issues remained unresolved, the ICC took decisive action, awarding Scotland a coveted spot in the tournament.
Sources reveal that the ICC Chief Executive informed the Board in writing on Saturday morning that Bangladesh’s demands were not in line with ICC policies. The official letter also emphasized that Bangladesh failed to comply with the ICC Board’s decision, leaving the governing body with no choice but to invite Scotland.
The letter was simultaneously sent to Aminul Islam, President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, who also serves as a member of the ICC Board. Meanwhile, Cricket Scotland has received an official invitation to participate, although their Chief Executive has yet to comment publicly on this sudden opportunity.
Scotland’s inclusion is reportedly based on their strong past performances in ICC events and their current world ranking of 14th. In the 2024 World Cup, Scotland finished third in Group B, and in 2021, they famously shocked the cricket world by defeating Bangladesh, making their return to the global stage even more thrilling.
