LAHORE – The Punjab government has announced a local holiday on February 6 for the celebration of Basant in Lahore, following a recommendation from the district administration.
This decision aims to allow citizens to fully participate in the festivities and ensure that the celebrations are safe and well-organized.
The February 6 holiday (Wednesday), along with the Kashmir Day holiday on February 5 (Thursday), creates a four-day weekend as Saturday and Sunday are already weekly offs.
According to officials, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday holidays were already scheduled, and the government has now added Friday as an additional holiday.
The purpose of this move is to ease traffic congestion during the celebrations and provide a safe environment for the public.
Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner of Lahore has advised citizens under 18 to celebrate Basant with their families to ensure safety and maintain order during the festivities.
The district administration has assured that the government and relevant authorities will work to ensure that the Basant celebrations are conducted peacefully, allowing the public to enjoy the cultural festival without any concerns.
