Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa weather: More rain, snowfall expected

More intermittent widespread rain is expected in Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday night and Friday.

Heavy snowfall is also expected in the hilly areas of the province during the forecast period.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a strong westerly wave is currently prevailing over most parts of Pakistan. It will likely persist in the upper parts of the country till tomorrow.

Under these conditions, more widespread rain is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Peshawar, Charsadda, Swabi, Nowshera, Kohat, Kurram, Tank, Waziristan, Karak, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan and Lakki Marwat on Thursday night. Heavy rain/hailstorm may also occur at a few places. Moderate to heavy snowfall is expected in the upper parts.

On Friday, more rain is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Peshawar, Charsadda, Swabi, and Nowshera. Moderate to heavy snowfall is likely in the upper districts during the period.

Heavy rain/snowfall may cause road closures/ slippery conditions in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Chitral, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, and Galiyat.

Heavy rain/snowfall may cause flash flooding in local nullahs and streams of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while there are possibilities of landslides/avalanches in hilly areas during the period. Tourists are advised to remain extra cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period.

Peshawar’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 08°C and 10°C on Friday, between 09°C and 11°C on Saturday and between 08°C and 10°C on Sunday.

Meanwhile, scattered rain with snowfall over hills occurred in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours.

Parachinar remained the coldest place in the province, where the temperature dropped 05°C below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Kalam was recorded at -04°C and in Malam Jabba at -03°C.

In Peshawar, the minimum temperature was recorded at 09°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 93 per cent.
