KARACHI – Sindh government granted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) conditional permission to hold a political rally in the city.
According to Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Deputy Commissioner of Karachi East issued the official permit, allowing PTI to carry out legal and constitutional political activities in the province.
The permission comes with strict conditions. Organizers will be fully responsible for maintaining law and order, and any provocative, sectarian, or anti-institution speeches will not be allowed. Traffic management during the rally is also the responsibility of the organizers, and the program must conclude before the scheduled time.
Minister Memon added that the district administration reserves the right to revoke the permit at any time for security reasons.
KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi is in Karachi to rally PTI supporters ahead of party’s nationwide street movement. During his three-day visit, Afirdi interacted with journalists at Karachi Press Club, visited Insaf House, and planned public gatherings in South and Malir districts. Afridi praised Karachi’s reception, noting it was warmer than Lahore, and highlighted the democratic legacy of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto in Sindh.
He stressed that the visit aims to energize PTI’s street campaign and criticized the treatment of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in jail. Afridi also stressed that lasting peace in Sindh requires inclusive decision-making with local leaders and tribal elders, rather than unilateral military operations.
Afridi’s arrival in Karachi was met with large crowds. PTI claimed police had removed tents set up for his reception but clarified the party office was not sealed. Afridi announced a major rally at Mazar-i-Quaid on Sunday, expected to be one of the largest in Karachi’s history.
During his visit, he will meet party leadership, business figures, lawyers, and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, and is also scheduled to visit Hyderabad to engage supporters and address local issues. His prior Punjab visit had faced challenges, highlighting tensions during PTI’s nationwide mobilization efforts.
