LAHORE – Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has directed district education authorities to take strict action against Assistant Education Officers (AEOs) who are not fulfilling their duties.
According to the instructions, AEOs failing to perform adequately will have their monthly visit allowances stopped, with officials emphasising that “no free meals” will be provided for those neglecting their responsibilities.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of all district education authorities have been requested to immediately reshuffle and rationalise AEOs based on operational requirements. The directive aims to improve monitoring, accountability, and overall performance within the education system.
Officials stressed the need for stronger field oversight and reiterated that allowances will only be granted to officers who meet performance standards.
Earlier this year, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikander Hayat announced that schools with low pass rates would undergo immediate scrutiny. He confirmed that the process would begin in his own tehsil of Patoki, where authorities have already compiled a list of schools showing poor performance in both 9th and 10th grades.
The minister also indicated that the possibility of dismissing teachers from schools with consistently low results is being considered. He emphasized that the government cannot overlook negligence in the education system, as it wastes billions of rupees of public money while yielding minimal results.
