The meeting of Sindh Irrigation Department, chaired by Provincial Minister Sohail Anwar Sial,took important decisions on Thursday regarding situation arising out of possible rains and measures for water supply to the tail areas. While presiding over a review meeting on the initiatives of Irrigation Department here at his office, Sohail Anwar Sialwas also given a briefing on the performance of the officers. The meeting was attended by Secretary Irrigation, Director SIDA, all Chief Engineers and briefed the Irrigation Minister about the ongoing schemes and other measures. The meeting considered how to provide facilities to farmers to work under SOPs in the event of coronavirus and lockdown. The Irrigation Minister directed the officers to take precautionary measures to deal with possible rains and flood situation while ordering all kinds of water supply to the tail areas especially Badin. He said that farmers affected by lockdown due to corona virus should not have any problem. He said that cleaning of canals should be completed before the rains and repair work on critical places should be completed in time to avoid damage in case of possible floods. Sohail Anwar Sial also directed strict action against illegal water courses and effective measures to prevent water theft. Regarding the new schemes, he said that due to Corona, there was a need to control expenditure in a state of uncertainty, so a special strategy for cost control should be formulated in the new schemes.
