More calls for ration instead of Covid-19: DG 1122

The Director-General Punjab Emergency Services (PES) Dr Rizwan Naseer has said that Rescue 1122 provided timely emergency care to 8,02,64 victims of emergencies while responding to 7,87,55 emergencies in the Month of April. At least, 197 people died in road traffic crashes happened last month.
He expressed these views while presiding over a monthly performance review meeting held at Rescue Headquarters here on Saturday, which was attended by all heads of the wing of the Service.
The meeting was informed that a total of 80264 were rescued 7,87,55 victims of emergencies during the month of April 2020. Out of these emergencies, 1,93,15 were road traffic accidents, 4,56,27 medical emergencies, 1,158 fire incidents, 2,722 crimes, 95 drowning incidents, 67 building collapses seven explosions and 9,764 miscellaneous operations.
The data revealed that the majority of fire incidents occurred in major cities, involving 249 fires in Lahore, 100 in Faisalabad, 58 Rawalpindi, 51 in Gujranwala, 68 in Multan, 47 in RY Khan, 33 in Sialkot, 30 in Sargodha, 50 in Bahawalpur and 10 in Okara. Similarly, 3400 traffic accidents were reported in Lahore, 2011 in Faisalabad, 1580 in Multan, 1106 in Gujranwala, 599 in Rawalpindi, 814 in Bahawalpur and 717 in Sahiwal.
Speaking at the occasion, DG Rescue said that the trend of corona emergency calls has been changed for the last two weeks.
He said that a significant increase in the numbers of calls received at corona Helpline-1190 was the ration requests instead of corona emergencies. The helpline-1190 received over 1,78,69 ration requests among 348 coronavirus testing queries, 338 of corona suspected information, 96 regarding the public gathering, and 17 of disinfections requests.
He observed that there had been very few emergency calls related to diseases. It shows that people are more concerned about the provision of food items instead of advice related to coronavirus.
Owing to the current situation in the country and increasing number of call at Helpline-1190, DG Rescue Punjab requested the citizens especially those who can afford, they should come forward and held at least one family during Ramadan. He said that helping the deserving and needy people as it is our religious obligation of neighbors or relatives.
