Police and civil military authorities including Pakistan Ranger on Thursday sealed the entrance and exit points of sectors I-10/1 and I-10/4 after 33 out of 150 residents tested positive for Coronavirus there.
According to a notification issued by the District Magistrate of Islamabad the measure was taken in large public interest and to prevent the wide spread of outbreak of Novel Coronavirus.
The sector is now among the hotpots of coronavirus in the federal capital as 33 out of 150 have been tested positive there.
While talking to Pakistan Observer, Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad Hamza Shafqaat said as per the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) a sector or residential area where seven or more positive cases of coronavirus are reported is temporarily sealed and health teams along with the officials of the district administration put the entire locality under surveillance for at least seven days.
“After the surveillance period, we shall make assessment whether it is safe to remove cordon from these two sub sectors or continue monitoring them,” said the DC.
We had sent 150 samples and received their reports today and the decision is taken in the light of that report, he further said adding it alarmed the authorities to take urgent steps to check the further spread of Covid-19.
With the latest 36, the federal capital has now registered a total of 316 positive cases of coronavirus which is even higher than the entire region of the Pakistan Administered Kashmir where 66 cases are reported and even close to Gilgit Baltistan (333). Officials of the District administration with support of health teams are involved in surveillance of various residential/urban areas of Islamabad closely scrutinizing each case and his/her contacts to ascertain presence or absence of coronavirus.
They are also raising awareness among the people particularly those living in an area affected by coronavirus on social distancing as how important it is to maintain people’s health.
