Sindh recorded 404 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, which is the highest number of infections in the province so far, bringing the national tally of coronavirus affected people to 15,521.
During the last 24 hours 26 patients suffering from Corona died including eight people in Sindh. Until now 348 patients have succumbed to the virus.
The nationwide tally of Covid-19 patients on Wednesday stood at 15,521 with 5,827 cases in Punjab, 5,695 in Sindh, 2,313 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 974 in Balochistan, 333 in Gilgit-Baltistan, 313 in Islamabad and 66
in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and at least 3,425 coronavirus patients have recovered.
At least 22 employees of the Federal Board of Revenue’s field office in Quetta tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Wednesday. The first case was reported from the Regional Income Tax Office Quetta on April 18, after which a health team visited the office and collected samples of 164 employees, including staff and officers.
Of these, 22 tested positive and 85 tested negative for the virus while 57 are still awaiting results. All infected employees have been asked to self-quarantine at their places of residence. The employees who have tested positive include Grade 1 to 15 officers of the FBR. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Sindh has reached 5659 while a total of 51,790 tests have been conducted so far, including 3729 done over the past 24 hours.
Shah said that 39 fresh cases of coronavirus were reported from Karachi’s District Central, 113 cases in District South, 100 in District East, 26 cases from District West, 37 cases in Korangi and 17 cases from District Malir.
Moreover, 14 cases reported in Sukkur, 13 each in Larkana and Khairpur and 7 cases at Shikarpur, Syed Murad Ali Shah said.
At least 39 healthcare providers on the frontline of the fight against the novel coronavirus have been infected with the infection in Pakistan during the past 24 hours, according to a report. Those diagnosed with the deadly virus included 17 doctors, six nurses and 16 health workers.
Of the total, six doctors and 13 paramedics tested positive for the infection in Balochistan, while eight doctors, a nurse and a health worker have been affected by the disease in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In Punjab, a doctor, five nurses and a health worker have been affected by the pathogen. In Sindh, two doctors have been diagnosed as positive for the novel coronavirus during this period.
