During a meeting with UET Governor/Chancellor Chaudhry Sarwar, UET Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar accompanied by Textile Engineering Department Chairman and project head Dr Mohsin, presented a cheque worth Rs 2,556,167 from faculty, officers and staff as a donation towards the Prime Minister’s Corona Relief Fund.
He also presented a cheque amounting Rs 100,000 to the same fund as his personal donation. During the meeting, he briefed the chancellor regarding ongoing projects which UET has recently completed to stop the spread of Covid-19 by producing hand sanitisers, liquid disinfectant soaps, herbal antiviral disinfectants, alcohol based sprays and recent project of preparing anti-microbial full body protective suits (PPEs) on a very cheap cost.
At this occasion he also presented 3500 Anti-microbial treated face masks and 160 full body anti-microbial treated PPEs to the governor as a donation from UET for frontline doctors and service providers.
The governor appreciated the efforts of UET for its initiative then Dr. Mansoor Sarwar briefed him about the key properties of the protective suits which include air permeability, thickness, tensile strength, water repellency, tear strength. Dr. Mohsin told that these PPEs were assessed as per international standards and recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO). He said 14 types of operations were performed to complete the stitching of full protective suit. All the development and testing steps of the whole project were carried out at the state of the art lab facilities of UET textile department.
