Confirmed corona cases rise to 7,392; death tally 137

ISLAMABAD The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 7,329 on Friday after new infections were confirmed in the country, especially in Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan. With death of six more patients the death tally in the cointry has reached 137. Another 120 people have recovered from the coronavirus in the country during the past 24 hours, according to the government’s official portal for tracking the spread of the disease. The total number of recoveries is now 1,765. Sindh has reported 340 coronavirus cases during the past 24 hours hitting the mark of 2,217, with 25 new cases now Punjab has 3,391 patients, KP 993, Balochistan 346, Gilgit-Baltistan 245, Islamabad 154 and AJK has 46 patients. Amid a sharp rise in the number of local transmission cases of Covid-19 in Karachi, the Sindh government has decided to seal ‘hotpots’ areas of the deadly disease in the city. According to the health department, 70 fresh cases reported in Karachi, 58 in Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki 96, Sukkur 52. Besides that Hyderabad has registered 8 and Jamshoro 8 cases while 12 cases are reported in Sanghar. Over 11 Larkana, Dadu 10, Tanduallahyar 4, Tandu Muhammad Khan one while in the same way five in Sujawal, Noshehro Ferouz 3 and two cases reported in Badin. As many as four more people lost their lives at the hands of coronavirus who were of age between 53 to 77 years after which the province’s death toll of the virus soared to 45. Meanwhile, a complete lockdown was enforced in Sindh on Friday from 12 noon to 3:30pm as a measure to contain spread of coronavirus. According to the home department, a lockdown for three-and-a-half hours has been imposed to limit the congregational Friday prayers, however, the orders will not apply to the private hospitals, personnel of law enforcing agencies and the media persons. Main roads in Karachi including Shahraie-Faisal, Baloch Pull, University Road, I.I Chundrigar Road, M.A Jinnah Road and others have been blocked by the police. The Punjab government has announced that it will conduct random tests in the province in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Taking to Twitter, the provincial government also announced that it now has the capacity to conduct 4,200 tests daily. Punjab health department reported that 59 inmates in Lahore, 14 in Sialkot, nine in Dera Ghazi Khan, seven in Gujranwala and two in Bhakkar have tested positive for the virus. The spokesperson said 457 pilgrims in Multan, 221 pilgrims in DG Khan, and 23 pilgrims in Faisalabad have tested positive. The Corona Virus situation continued to be alarming in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where confirmed cases reached 993 as 58 new cases of the Covid19 were reported during the last 24 hours and three more patients fell victim to the deadly virus taking the death toll to 45.
