Traffic Police and Traffic Engineering Bureau have collaborated to address the city’s chronic traffic congestion, combining enforcement and engineering solutions. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi at his office on Wednesday.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including DIG Traffic Ahmed Nawaz Cheema, Deputy Commissioners Abrar Jafar (East) and Javed Nabi Khoso (South), Assistant Commissioner Headquarters Rabia Syed, and Director Engineering Bureau Yousuf Iqbal.

Engineering Bureau will act promptly to resolve congestion issues at critical points, including Fatima Jinnah Road, Baloch Colony Flyover, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Hoshing Road Signal, Millennium Mall Rashid Minhas Road Intersection, and Al-Asif Square Intersection. To guide commuters, awareness boards, traffic signs, and banners will be installed at key locations. DIG Traffic Ahmed Nawaz Cheema identified 11 areas requiring engineering interventions. Officials will review and propose actionable solutions for these spots.

The meeting also discussed implementing alternative routes and converting some two-way roads into one-way traffic to reduce congestion. DIG Traffic will oversee the identification of roads that could benefit from this strategy. Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi stressed the importance of an integrated approach, combining enforcement and engineering efforts to improve Karachi’s traffic situation effectively.
