Senior Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Sindh, Sharjeel Inam Memon, attended the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected body of the Hyderabad Union of Journalists (HUJ) at the Hyderabad Press Club on Monday.

During the event, Memon administered the oath to the newly elected office-bearers, including President Hamid Sheikh, General Secretary Ali Hamza Zaidi, Senior Vice President Faiz Khoso, Vice President Altaf Koti, Senior Joint Secretary Muzaffar Rind, Treasurer Danish Nafees, and 18 members of the executive council. Memon congratulated the newly elected journalists, expressing his gratitude and admiration for the Hyderabad press community.

He emphasized the Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) unwavering support for independent journalism, highlighting the sacrifices made by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto during tough times for the media. He further criticized the previous dictatorial governments for suppressing journalists and reaffirmed that PPP has always stood alongside independent journalists, even during media trials. Memon also addressed a range of regional development projects, particularly focusing on the health sector.

He assured that the PPP government is committed to ensuring accessible healthcare for both the people of Sindh and journalists. He announced plans to upgrade Hyderabad’s Civil Hospital and provide health insurance for journalists.

Additionally, he promised the removal of encroachments from government transport lands in Hyderabad and revealed upcoming initiatives to launch electric vehicle (EV) buses and taxis, expanding the successful Karachi pilot project to other Sindh cities. Further discussing the issue of water rights, Memon reiterated the Sindh government’s firm stance on protecting the province’s water, especially against any potential diversion from the River Indus for Punjab’s Cholistan canal system.

He urged the federal government to expedite the resolution by calling a Council of Common Interests (CCI) meeting soon. Memon concluded by stressing the importance of completing federal government projects in Sindh, particularly the Sukkur-Hyderabad M6 Motorway, as delays in these projects are detrimental not only to Sindh but to the entire national economy.

The ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Divisional Commissioner Hyderabad Bilal Ahmed Memon, Divisional Director Information Department Irshad Ali Chandio, Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad Zain-ul-Abdin Memon, and SSP Hyderabad Dr. Farrukh Ali Lanjhar, among other officials.
