Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Ameer Monem Zafar Khan has written a letter to Chief Minister Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, questioning why no action was taken against those held responsible for irregularities in last year’s Intermediate Board examinations. He pointed out that individuals identified as responsible in the February 2024 investigation report were promoted to senior positions in the board instead of facing accountability. Monem Zafar demanded immediate steps to address the grievances of thousands of students and to safeguard their academic futures.
He called for the termination of individuals identified in the 2024 inquiry report led by NED University Vice Chancellor Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodi and recommended filing legal cases against them. He also criticized the 12-member inquiry committee formed by the current Chairman of the Intermediate Board, Sharaf Ali Shah, pointing out that its convener has close ties to a deputy controller of examinations who was implicated in last year’s irregularities.
Furthermore, Monem highlighted that Controller of Examinations Zarina Rashid, who was previously declared absconding in the 2024 report, is still in a key position. Monem Zafar urged the dissolution of the existing committee and the formation of a new one comprising senior university professors, education stakeholders, and experts. He proposed that parents or teachers of candidates be present during the review of exam papers to ensure transparency.
He expressed concern over the state of Karachi’s examination system, stating that irregularities in the 2024 and 2025 Intermediate Board exams have caused unrest among students and parents. “Thousands of students with outstanding academic potential are now facing a bleak future due to the negligence of the board,” Monem added. In his letter, he reminded the Chief Minister that the ministry overseeing universities and education boards is directly under his supervision.
He urged him to take swift action, implement the recommendations of the 2024 report, and restore trust in Karachi’s examination system. Monem Zafar concluded by calling attention to the hardships faced by students and their families, demanding a fair.
