The Islamabad Capital Administration (ICT) with the assistance Capital Development Authority (CDA) has completely removed encroachments from the fruit and vegetable market Islamabad (Sabzi Mandi) in Sector I-11. According to Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad Hamza Shafqaat the step has been taken to ensure social distancing and avert congestion in the largest fruit and vegetable market of the country. Because of the encroachments, problems were being faced in maintaining social distancing in the Sabzi Mandi visited by hundreds of people on daily basis. The hand carts have been shifted outside the Sabzi Mandi with a proper plan having sufficient distance between each hand cart. Furthermore, special cleanliness and sweeping of the market has been carried out. Moreover, instructions have been issued to carry out proper monitoring and proper cleanliness of the market. In his post on social media, Deputy Commissioner tweeted: It is the largest fruit and vegetable market in Pakistan. Market Committee teams under Mr Roshdil Khan and @GVaxir have worked very hard to discipline it and clean it. Let’s appreciate them.” Meanwhile, following the directions of Chairman CDA, Work on traffic management solution for Rawal Chowk and Park Road will commence soon as Capital Development Authority (CDA) is inviting bids for the project. Under this project, one overhead bridge and two underpasses would be constructed at Rawal Dam Chowk. The bids are being invited under Single Stage Two Envelop procedure from technically sound and well reputed firms registered with Pakistan Engineering Council. The project will be completed with cost amounting to Rs. 1246.067 millions. The project is being executed in connection with authority’s steps towards removal of traffic congestion in the city. The major objective of this project is to cater future traffic needs on this avenue, improve road sector efficiency on the main traffic corridors, providing uninterrupted traffic flow, stress free / comfortable and signal free driving environment thus resolving traffic issues in the vicinity and adjoining areas once for all.
