Sindh Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has suspended Abdul Rasheed Mallah, former Deputy Director of Finance and current Accountant at Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University, Lyari, for failing to provide audit records. The PAC has also directed the Additional IG Karachi to investigate Mallah’s alleged involvement in a harassment case.
The PAC meeting, chaired by Nisar Khuhro, took place on Wednesday in the Sindh Assembly committee room. Members including Qasim Soomro, Khurram Soomro, Makhdoom Fakhr Zaman, and acting Vice Chancellor Amjad Siraj Memon attended. During the session, Amjad Siraj Memon informed the PAC that Mallah refused to provide audit records and did not comply with the findings of a departmental inquiry, which had declared him involved in a harassment case.
The inquiry was led by a three-member committee under Additional Secretary Sohail Anwar Baloch. Despite being issued a show-cause notice and having his charge as Deputy Director of Finance revoked, Mallah has not cooperated. PAC Chairman Nisar Khuhro expressed concern over Mallah’s negligence and ordered his suspension for failing to hand over the audit records. Member Qasim Soomro recommended an investigation into the harassment case, leading to PAC’s directive to the Karachi police chief for a thorough probe.
