A Mock Poll Activity was organized to empower visually impaired individuals and raise awareness about voting rights and processes. Held in collaboration with the District Election Commissioner Central, the event took place at the Pakistan Disable Foundation, hosted by Shahid Memon, Chairperson and Senior Advocate for the Blind and Visually Impaired (VI) Community. More than 50 blind and VI participants actively engaged in the initiative.
The event aimed to promote inclusive elections, empowering persons with disabilities (PWDs) to exercise their right to vote independently and confidentially. Participants practiced the voting process, fostering a better understanding of their rights and ensuring they are prepared for future elections. District Election Commissioner Mr. Kanwar Shujaat led his DVEC team in conducting the activity, ensuring meticulous execution.
He personally interacted with participants, taking their feedback. “Collaborative efforts among stakeholders will advance the inclusion of PWDs, and with continued education and training, we expect greater participation in upcoming elections,” Shujaat remarked.
This initiative is part of a broader campaign by PWDs-network.net to enhance the empowerment and inclusion of PWDs in Pakistan. Founder and Chairperson Zaigham Mahmood Rizvi, Executive Committee Member Dr. Talat Rizvi, Ronak Lakhani, Sarwat Nasim Shah, and volunteer Azlaan Shah were present at the event to show their support.
