Sindh Minister for Education, Syed Sardar Ali Shah, has announced a review of textbooks for the academic year 2025-26. The review process will focus on removing hateful content, fostering tolerance, and promoting inclusive education. This initiative was discussed during a meeting at the Sindh Textbook Board in Jamshoro on Tuesday, where Minister Shah was joined by Chairman Pervaiz Ahmed Baloch and other key officials. Minister Shah emphasized that the revised textbooks should align with modern educational standards and contribute to students’ overall growth—mentally, physically, emotionally, and socially. He stressed that education must go beyond merely conveying information; it should inspire students to become conscientious, responsible citizens. “Education should foster a culture of respect and mutual understanding,” he stated, outlining the need for textbooks that promote positive values.
A significant part of the review process will be dedicated to eliminating any content that may promote hatred or division. The minister underlined the importance of introducing lessons that stimulate creative thinking and cultural awareness. He highlighted the necessity of incorporating the history of Sindh, along with its heroes and prominent figures, into the curriculum.
“Students should understand the historical identity of Sindh as a region known for peace, tolerance, and unity,” Syed Sardar Ali Shah said, adding that the curriculum should emphasize respect for all religions and cultures. The minister also proposed reforms for the Sindh Textbook Board, suggesting that its role be restricted to the printing, design, and distribution of textbooks.
Additionally, a proposal is being considered to transform the board into a company under the Companies Act to improve efficiency. In a bid to ensure the timely availability of textbooks for the upcoming academic year, Shah instructed the Sindh Textbook Board Chairman to expedite the printing process and eliminate any delays. This initiative aims to provide students with textbooks that support an inclusive, respectful, and well-rounded education.
