Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi on Tuesday visited several areas in the Korangi and Malir districts to address ongoing issues related to water scarcity, cleanliness, encroachments, and sewage problems. The visit aimed to assess the situation on the ground and implement immediate solutions to improve living conditions in these areas.

Accompanied by key officials, including Syed Salahuddin Ahmed, Managing Director of the Water and Sewerage Corporation, and the Deputy Commissioners of Korangi and Malir, Masood Bhutto and Saleemullah Odho, respectively, Naqvi inspected various locations to evaluate the state of public services. One of the major concerns was the water supply situation, particularly at the Korangi 5.5 Number and Ali Akbar Shah pumping stations in Ibrahim Hyderi.

The Commissioner was briefed by the deputy commissioners about the ongoing challenges, including power load shedding at the Korangi 5.5 Number water pumping station, which has been severely impacting the water supply to Korangi and Landhi. In response, Commissioner Naqvi directed the Water Corporation to prioritize the improvement of water supply at both pumping stations.

He instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Korangi to coordinate with K-Electric to eliminate load shedding and ensure a stable power supply between 12:00 and 3:00 pm, which is crucial for maintaining proper water distribution. During his visit to Nasir Colony and other areas, Naqvi also highlighted the urgent need to improve cleanliness and waste management systems.

He emphasized that the provincial government is committed to enhancing the city’s cleanliness and instructed the Solid Waste Management Board to focus on neglected peripheral areas. The Commissioner observed significant sanitation issues, including garbage dumps in public spaces, and was informed that over 2,000 factories in the area were illegally dumping waste at public locations.

He ordered the Solid Waste Management Board to identify these factories and issue warnings to stop the illegal dumping immediately. Naqvi also took note of the poor condition of stormwater drains, particularly in Bilal Colony and Korangi 2.5. He directed the Deputy Commissioner of Korangi to collaborate with the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and other relevant agencies to clear the clogged drains.
