As the world is set to ring into 2025 with latest payment methods, Pakistanis are still looking to get global online payment systems like PayPal. But there is something else that rekindles hope for online payments and that is Google Wallet – the digital wallet of a leading search engine.

The buzz has about Google Wallet which is backed by Google and allows users to make secure, contactless payments using their mobiles. The leaked developer notes revealed that G-Pay is coming to Pakistan.

The post mentioned a group of countries including Pakistan where Google Wallet support is slated to be rolled out. For the unversed, the search engine has not made it official.

G-Wallet will bring secure, contactless payments, ending need to carry physical cards and enhancing security with encryption. It will also improve financial inclusion by making digital payments accessible to more people, including the unbanked.

The service will simplify travel and events by storing digital boarding passes and tickets, and allow users to track loyalty rewards. While the launch date and other details remain under wraps, Google Wallet’s arrival excites people.

PayPal Dilemma

Last year, there were reports about PayPal launching but the company decided against starting operations in Pakistan, either directly or through a partnership with Payoneer.

The partnership allows Payoneer users to make payments via PayPal, but it does not enable Pakistanis to create PayPal accounts. This arrangement is global, not specific to this country, and the minister’s remarks could delay efforts to bring PayPal to the country.

The lack of PayPal’s presence in Pakistan is due to regulatory issues, including concerns about money laundering, and restrictions from global institutions.
