ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that there is no justification for the US sanctions imposed on Pakistan due to its missile program, emphasizing that there would be no compromise on the program.
PM Shehbaz remarked that Pakistan’s nuclear and missile programs are solely aimed at strengthening its defense capabilities, saying that Pakistan can defend itself against any potential aggression.
He condemned the recent attacks, highlighted the martyrdom of 17 personnel in a terrorist attack and urged prayers for them. The participants offered Fateha for the martyred and expressed condolences with the families concerned.
PM Shehbaz said that the eight militants involved in the attack were neutralized while the military leadership personally visited Wana to boost morale. He reiterated that the development and prosperity efforts could only bear fruit after terrorism is completely eradicated. He pledged full cooperation with provinces and the use of all resources to crush terrorism.
Discussing the regional issues, he expressed regret over sectarian violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, and criticized the KP government for its inaction during critical times.
On US sanctions, the PM reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to safeguard its missile program, saying that, “This program does not belong to any individual or party; it is a cherished program of 240 million Pakistanis. There will be no compromise, and the nation stands united on this issue,”.
He added that Pakistan’s Foreign Office strongly responded to the sanctions and assured that the program would continue to strengthen Pakistan’s defense.
The PM also mentioned an ongoing dialogue with PTI as both sides are now due to meet again on January 6, 2025.
