Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah conducted a surprise early-morning inspection of the Malir Expressway, focusing on the 9-km stretch between the Jam Sadiq Bridge and Shah Faisal Interchange. Without protocol, he called for the project to be completed by December 30 to open for traffic.  Addressing officials, including the Karachi Commissioner, DIG Police, and DMC representatives, Shah issued a stern warning against encroachments and illegal parking along the expressway. “The project must be finished by December 30,” he instructed Engineer Khalid Mansoor, urging expedited construction and the removal of illegal structures between the Shah Faisal Interchange and the airport to ensure smooth traffic flow.

The Malir Expressway will cut travel time between the Jam Sadiq Bridge and Jinnah Terminal to just 15 minutes. Shah emphasized the importance of this high-speed corridor, which will link Shah Faisal, the airport, Shahrah-e-Faisal, and the National Highway. He also clarified that the expressway will be restricted to vehicles, prohibiting motorcycles and rickshaws. Security checkpoints will be set up to manage traffic and maintain safety.

Following the opening of the first phase, the remaining section extending to Kathore will be prioritized to complete the project. Shah also instructed officials to install and activate road lighting along the expressway ahead of a planned follow-up night inspection. Shah hailed the expressway as a game-changer for Karachi, aiming to alleviate the city’s chronic traffic congestion and improve connectivity for commuters and cargo transport. “This project is critical for Karachi’s future,” he stated, reaffirming his commitment to its timely completion.
