LAHORE – A pet lion escaped the cage and caused chaos in Lahore’s Harbanspura Area on Saturday.
The four-legged carnivore escaped its cage and attacked several people in the locality, police said. The lion was kept by Chaudhry Ali Imran in the Shalimar Housing Scheme, Harbanspura.
The incident occurred when a big cat managed to break free from its enclosure and jumped out, attacking individuals near Ganda Nullah Road. A security guard deployed at the property shot and killed the lion, preventing further injuries.
The police arrived at the scene shortly after and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape. Authorities have not yet disclosed how the lion managed to escape the cage or provided details on any injuries sustained by the victims.
This alarming incident has raised concerns about the safety of keeping dangerous animals as pets, with calls for stricter regulations and enforcement regarding the housing of wild animals in residential areas.
Last weekend, TikTok star Rajab Butt was arrested for illegally possessing an assault rifle and a lion cub. The lion cub was seized and transferred to Lahore Safari Zoo, with its future to be decided by the court.
Butt, who has millions of followers, claimed the cub was a wedding gift and denied violating wildlife laws.
