Mayor visits Sharaffi goth GTS

Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, recently visited the Sharaffi Goth GTS (Garbage Transfer Station) and the greenery hub established with the collaboration of SSWM and Tier Fund. The purpose of the visit was to inspect the ongoing work and assess the effectiveness of the facility in waste management and recycling.

During the visit, Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, Executive Director Operations of Solid Waste, Tariq Nizamani, and other officials were also present. Mayor emphasized the importance of completing the modern GTS construction on time. Organic Fertilizer Production: The GTS processes waste in trenches over a 40-day period to produce organic fertilizer. Plastic Recycling: Plastic bags and polythene are converted into plastic granules and flakes. Environmental Awareness Campaign: An awareness drive is being conducted in four UCs of District Malir to segregate waste at the source. The Mayor highlighted the necessity of modernizing GTS facilities to provide a cleaner environment for the city’s residents. He said: “It is essential to build GTS facilities with modern standards to provide a clean environment for the citizens.”

Wahab also praised the Sharaffi Goth project, calling it a success. He mentioned that strategies would be developed to expand this model to other GTS facilities across Karachi. Mayor ensured that the ongoing construction and development of GTS projects would be completed on schedule. He added that these initiatives would not only improve the environment but also positively impact the lives of Karachi’s residents. Tariq Nizaman, provided a briefing, emphasizing that the project is a vital step towards sustainable urban development, contributing significantly to resolving the city’s waste management challenges.
