Milli Yakjehti Council (MYC), a coalition of religious-political parties, has offered to mediate in the ongoing deadlock between religious seminary boards and the government over the registration of seminaries, an issue arising from the 26th Constitutional Amendment. During a press briefing at Idara Noor-e-Haq, the JI Karachi headquarters, MYC Pakistan General Secretary Liaquat Baloch emphasized the organization’s willingness to break the impasse.
The meeting also saw the announcement of office bearers for the Sindh chapter of MYC, with Asadullah Bhutto elected as provincial president and Allama Qazi Ahmed Noorani appointed General Secretary. A 50-member team of vice presidents, deputy secretaries, and a secretary for information were also elected. Liaquat Baloch expressed concerns over the ongoing dispute between the government and certain religious boards, especially after President Arif Alvi refused to sign the bill requiring seminaries to be registered under the societies act.
He called for dialogue among all parties to resolve the issue, which he described as sensitive, especially given its religious significance. Baloch also criticized the government’s handling of the issue, claiming that Maulana Fazlur Rehman and his JUI-F party had been betrayed over the registration matter. However, he emphasized that dialogue remains the only viable solution, stating that without discussions, issues tend to reach dead ends. MYC leader argued that the issue should not be politicized, as the registration of religious seminaries directly relates to religious matters.
He urged all involved parties, including the government and religious boards, to engage in meaningful dialogue. Addressing the ongoing conflict in Parachinar, Liaquat Baloch revealed that the MYC had been in contact with both Shia and Sunni leaders to address the crisis, which is largely driven by land disputes among local tribes.
The MYC is working towards a resolution and will announce further actions after consultations with both parties. Furthermore, Baloch urged the Sindh government, led by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), to take immediate action against criminal activities in the Katcha area. He also spoke about the unrest in Balochistan, stressing the need for attention to the province’s ongoing issues. On the international front, Liaquat Baloch highlighted the importance of unity among Muslim nations to address pressing issues in the Middle East, including the Palestinian situation and the ongoing crises in Syria and neighboring countries.
