CAIRO – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reiterated support for Pakistan in the fight against terrorism, in meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif amid the ongoing Developing-8 (D-8) summit in Cairo, Egypt.
Erdogan praised Islamabad’s economic recovery and reassured Sharif that Anakara would continue to strengthen political and economic ties between two Islamic nations.
Two sides also shed light on several other issues, including regional and global developments, with the Türkish President hopeful to support Syria’s people during their transformation following the recent collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
At D-8 Summit, PM Shehbaz Sharif emphasised importance of investing in youth for Pakistan’s socio-economic development. With over 60% of the country’s population under 30, he highlighted the need to provide skills, opportunities, and financial resources to unlock their potential. He also stressed the role of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in driving economic growth, innovation, and job creation.
PM Sharif shared Islamabad’s initiatives, including distributing over 6lac laptops to youth and providing loans through PM’s Youth Business and Agricultural Loan Scheme. He also discussed the government’s focus on empowering the IT sector to help youth engage with the digital economy.
Additionally, Sharif reiterated his call for a ceasefire in Gaza, emphasizing that global peace cannot be achieved without addressing the ongoing conflict. He praised President El-Sisi for dedicating a session to the humanitarian crises in Gaza and Lebanon and reaffirmed the D-8’s role as a vital platform for international cooperation.
