PESHAWAR – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shaukat Yousafzai explained why his party did not initiate a civil disobedience movement so far.

Shaukat Yousafzai said that the civil disobedience movement would have started if the negotiation committee had not been formed. He revealed that the party leadership asked the PTI chairman to give negotiations a chance before making such a significant decision.

“Unfortunately, the government’s attitude is extremely immature,” he said while talking to the media on Monday.

Shaukat Yousafzai further said that the government seemed to believe PTI weakened, which is why talks were being discussed.

He said, “We do not want the country to face further hardships but the government’s attitude has been disappointing. Due to the ongoing negotiations, the date for the civil disobedience movement has not been finalized. If the talks fail, the PTI chairman might announce a future course of action. If the country suffers due to this, the responsibility will fall on the government. The government has limited time left to engage in serious negotiations,”.

The PTI leader also clarified reports aired on a private TV channel, calling them misleading.

“I did not issue any statement about the decision not to start the civil disobedience movement. What I said was that if the negotiation committee had not been formed, the civil disobedience movement would have started today,” said Shaukat Yousafzai.

He also emphasized that if negotiations failed, Imran Khan would announce the future course of action.

“Whether it is civil disobedience or any other movement, it will be announced and outlined by Imran Khan himself,” he added.
