ISLAMABAD – A local court on Monday reserved decision on maintainability of a plea moved by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Founder Imran Khan in a case related to defamation suit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Imran Khan had challenged the trial court’s decision regarding permission to witnesses to submit written testimonies in the defamation.
Imran Khan argued that the trial court’s decision to allow written testimonies in the defamation case is contrary to the facts.
The PTI founder said that the witnesses should appear in court to provide their testimonies. The court was requested to declare the trial court’s decision null and void.
Later, Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal of the Lahore High Court reserved the verdict on the maintainability of Imran Khan’s petition.
It may be mentioned here that Shehbaz Sharif, now the PM, had filed a Rs10b defamation suit against Imran Khan in 2017.
PTI chief, according to the law suit, had claimed in a TV program on April 26 that the Rs10bn bribe offer was made to him through a person related to Shahbaz, on behalf of the chief minister and his family
