Pakistan, Bangladesh agree to strengthen bilateral relations

Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi, S.M. Mahbubul Alam, held an official meeting with Zubair Motiwala, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) in Karachi. The discussions centered around expanding the bilateral trade baskets between the two countries, with a focus on diversifying the range of traded goods.

During the meeting, the two sides explored various business modalities, including Government-to-Government (G2G) and Business-to-Business (B2B) engagements.

They specifically discussed expanding trade in industrial and commercial products, as well as agricultural produce such as rice, onions, sugar, potatoes, dates, jute and jute products, tea, fresh fruits and vegetables, and sesame. Both the Deputy High Commissioner and the CEO of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) expressed optimism about the potential for enhanced trade and commerce between the two nations.

The CEO of TDAP also welcomed an invitation from the Deputy High Commissioner to participate in the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) in January 2025.

This month-long event in Bangladesh will provide an excellent platform for Pakistan to showcase its products and strengthen its economic ties with Bangladesh. Furthermore, the CEO of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) highlighted the importance of facilitating bilateral engagements on key issues such as the introduction of direct flights between the two countries, direct shipping links between their seaports, and the smooth processing of visas for entrepreneurs and businesspeople.

In response, the Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner assured the CEO of TDAP that all possible support and cooperation would be extended to Pakistan’s importers, exporters, and entrepreneurs, including prioritizing visa processing. This collaboration aims to expand trade, commerce, and investment opportunities, fostering deeper business ties for the mutual benefit of both countries.
