RAWALPINDI – Pakistani armed forces paid tribute to Major Muhammad Akram Shaheed who embraced martyrdom in the epic battle of Hilli in East Pakistan in 1971.

The 53rd martyrdom anniversary of legendary soldier, who rendered his life for motherland, is being observed today on Thursday and tributes are being paid to national hero for his ultimate sacrifice.

In a statement, ISPR said Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), Services Chiefs, and armed forces of Pakistan have remembered  Akram Shaheed.

A recipient of  Nishan-e-Haider, Major Akram was commanding a company of the 4 Frontier Force Regiment in East Pakistan on May 19, when he received orders to lead an attack on enemy positions.

After wreaking havoc to enemy tanks, Akram suffered critically injuries and embraced martyrdom on December 5, 1971.

Army remembers his sacrifice as a powerful reminder of the immense sacrifices in the defense of the nation as heroism continues to inspire the country’s military and citizens alike.
