ISLAMABAD – In a major setback to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the Election Commission of Pakistan on approved the petitions of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz in a case related to tribunal changes for three National Assembly seats in federal capital.
Justice (Retd) Abdul Shakoor Paracha of the ECP, who replaced IHC Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, announced the reserved verdict. He had reserved verdict on Oct 24 after hearing arguments in the case.
The PTI candidates had challenged the Election Commission’s decision in the High Court.
The Islamabad High Court had suspended the Election Commission’s decision and sent it back for reconsideration. The petition was filed by PML-N Members of National Assembly (MNAs). The three PML-N MNAs had requested the removal of Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri. The Election Commission had reserved its decision on October 24.
The Election Commission now transferred the cases related to Islamabad’s constituencies to a different tribunal. The cases were transferred to the Rawalpindi tribunal.
