KARACHI – The internet users in Karachi and several other cities across Pakistan faced severe difficulties due to the slow internet speeds on Monday.

The sluggish connectivity made it hard for the users to send and receive photos, videos and voice notes on apps like WhatsApp and others. Whether using Wi-Fi or mobile data, internet access became a source of frustration.  The freelancers, remote workers, digital marketers and students attending online classes are particularly affected by the disruptions.

Even in Pakistan’s economic hub, Karachi, complaints of slow internet speed persist. Many areas in the city are especially struggling with messaging issues on WhatsApp.

The users report excessive delays in sending audio, video and images in several areas including Saddar, Liaquatabad, FB Area and Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

In some locations, Wi-Fi services are reportedly not functioning at all.

The IT experts expressed concerns over the dire state of internet services in Pakistan, warning that the slow connectivity caused the daily economic losses amounting to billions of rupees.

The experts said that Pakistan’s telecom sector generated an average daily profit of Rs3 billion, with 60–70% of this revenue linked to 3G and 4G networks. However, the ongoing internet issues are severely impacting not only the telecom sector but also numerous other industries.
