ISLAMABAD – An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Saturday granted bail to journalist Matiullah Jan in a terrorism and narcotics case.
ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra approved the Jan’s bail petition, directing him to submit surety bonds woth Rs10,000.
Islamabad police had arrested him at the E-9 checkpoint a couple of days ago for allegedly assaulting cops, threatening them under the influence drugs and recovering of “ice” from his vehicle.
The police registered the first information report (FIR) against him under CrPC’s Sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 382 (theft after preparation made for causing death, hurt or restraint in order to the committing of the theft), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), 506 (criminal intimidation) along with 7ATA (terrorism-related section) and a drugs related charge.
Later, he was produced before the ATC, which sent him into police custody ton two-day physical remand.
However, on Friday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended his physical remand, converting it into judicial remand.
