ISLAMABAD – Hundreds of PTI activists were arrested in an overnight operation in capital Islamabad, as the government ended protests that paralyzed the region, and the action caused outrage among several groups.

Amid the protests, a civil servant Suleman Shah Rashdi, who was serving as a senior official in Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, stepped down from his position over a government crackdown.

Rashdi took to social media where he expressed resentment, saying, “After witnessing today’s heart-wrenching scenes, I decided to quit civil service!”

He mentioned his conscience presented him with two options: to remain a passive part of this system which he termed ‘rotten’ or to break away and struggle for democracy.

Besides his resignation, Rashdi also accused media of failing to highlight sthe uffering of citizens, accusing them of turning a blind eye to the woes of protesters.
