Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Monem Zafar Khan, expressed deep concern over the rising street crimes and loss of life during robberies, stating that the Sindh government, police department, and law enforcement agencies have failed to ensure the safety of the public. He pointed out that citizens are now facing an increase in both robberies and targeted killings, with perpetrators even killing people after snatching their money and mobile phones. Khan questioned the government’s inaction, saying, “It is clear that there is no presence of governance. While the provincial home minister claims that the issue of street crimes is being exaggerated, why hasn’t the network of criminals and terrorists been dismantled? Who is providing them protection, and when will decisive action be taken against them?” He highlighted the alarming statistics, noting that 102 citizens have lost their lives this year due to robbery-related violence. Citizens are not only dealing with armed robberies but also increasingly frequent terror activities that have left them feeling unsafe. Despite the Sindh government spending billions on the Safe City Project, Khan lamented that its outcomes have been null, and there has been no real impact on crime prevention. Khan also criticized the police department for harboring criminals and robbers, suggesting that political appointments within the police force and the lack of local Karachiites in the police have significantly impaired its effectiveness. He called for urgent reforms in the police department, a crackdown on those protecting criminals, and a greater focus on recruiting local Karachiites to improve policing in the city.
