Madhubala, a 16-year-old elephant currently in solitary confinement at Karachi Zoo, is set to be relocated to the city’s Safari Park today (Tuesday), according to the global animal welfare group, Four Paws. The relocation plans have been completed, and Madhubala will be reunited with two other elephants, Sonia and Malika, after 15 years. This move follows extensive preparation, including the completion of training for Madhubala to safely enter and exit the transport container, with route clearance measures in place to ensure a smooth transition. A ceremony is expected to mark the relocation of Madhubala to Safari Park, where she will join the other elephants, bringing the total number to three. Madhubala, along with three other African elephants, received medical treatment in Karachi in 2022 from Four Paws’ eight-member team. The elephant had been suffering from a dental infection and pain due to a broken tusk for years. In 2020, Four Paws also relocated Kaavan, once considered the world’s loneliest elephant, from Islamabad to Cambodia.
