LAHORE – The Punjab government has allowed resumption of construction activities in Lahore and other districts following improvement in air quality.

The Punjab government had banned all construction activities in Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Multan districts due to high density smog.

“Construction activities shall resume subject to observance of SOPs for Control of Fugitive Dust duly notified by EPA Punjab”, reads a notification issued by the Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The said SOPs are available on the official website of Punjab Environment Protection Department (EPD).

“Operation of Brick Kilns (Zigzag only) and Furnaces (with functional ECS only) may resume subject to compliance of SOPs given in Smog (Control & Prevention) Rules 2023”, the notification further reads.

The Punjab government, however, has imposed a complete ban on use of fireworks.

The Punjab has continued ban on entry of heavy vehicles in Lahore districts on Fridays and Sundays  with exemptions for those carrying fuel, medicines, hospital and food supply items, passenger busses having valid VCS certification, emergency vehicles such as ambulances, fire brigades, Rescue 1122, Police and Prisons and government vehicles.
