ISLAMABAD – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko’s arrival in Pakistan marks a new chapter in Islamabad -Minsk ties as both sides eye cooperation.

Lukashenko landed in the capital today on Monday on a three-day official state visit, accompanied by a high-level delegation, with extensive talks scheduled between Lukashenko and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.

Two sides will shed light on a wide range of cooperation, and several agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) will be signed during the visit.

Several ministers from key sectors, including energy, justice, transport, natural resources, and emergency situations, as well as the chairman of Belarus’ Military Industry Committee. Dozens of prominent business leaders from Belarus also visited South Asian nation.

The visit comes at a time of heightened security in the capital city, with authorities sealing off Red Zone and securing the Diplomatic Enclave in response to final protest call made by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

The government officials assured that PTI protesters attempting to enter capital would be detained. He emphasized that these measures were essential to protect residents of Islamabad and their property, while holding PTI responsible for the inconvenience caused to the masses.

The state visit by President Lukashenko is said to enhance diplomatic and economic relationship between the two nations.
