ISLAMABAD – The government has decided to suspend internet and mobile phone services in the federal capital, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab starting from November 23, reports said on Thursday.
Internet and mobile phone services could be suspended in various districts of Islamabad, KP, and Punjab in wake of the protest announced by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Nov 24.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will activate a firewall on mobile internet services starting from November 22. The activation of the firewall will slow down internet services, and users will not be able to download videos or audios from social media apps, reports further said.
The internet and mobile services would be suspended at specific locations at any time, depending on the situation.
In line with the directives of incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan, the party has called for a protest in Islamabad on November 24.
The PTI leaders have stated that preparations for the protest are in full swing. They have made it clear that the protest will not end until all demands are met.
Meanwhile, the Islamabad Capital Territory administration enforced two-month ban on public gatherings, rallies, and demonstrations across the city in anticipation of planned protests by the opposition party.
The order prohibits gathering of five or more individuals in any public place within the Islamabad Capital Territory, including the highly sensitive Red Zone, which houses key government buildings, foreign embassies, and high-security areas.
