PESHAWAR – Senior Leader of Awami National Party and former Senator Ilyas Ahmad Bilour has breathed his last at the age of 84, his family said Saturday.
The deceased was suffering from chronic kidney disease and had been receiving treatment at a hospital in the KP provincial capital for quite some time.
The funeral will take place at 2 pm. on Sunday at Wazir Bagh, Peshawar and he will be laid to rest in family’s ancestral graveyard.
Throughout his career, Ilyas made significant contributions to both politics and business. In addition to his political roles, he was the vice president of the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s Standing Committee on Sustainable Development, Finance, and Trade for the Asia Pacific region.
The deceased also served as chairman of the Pak-Asia Business Council and was twice elected president of the Indo-Pak Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Tributes and condolence messages started pouring in as soon as the news of Bolour’s demise broke as the former senator was a key figure in Awami National Party. Several political leaders from across Pakistan expressed condolences.
President Asif Ali Zardari mourned the Bilour’s family loss, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif remembered Ilyas Ahmad Bilour’s dedication to public service. KP Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi also paid tribute, recognizing his lasting impact on both political and social spheres.
