Jamaat-e-Ulama-e-Islam (JUI) Sindh continues to extend invitations for the All-Party Conference (APC) scheduled for November 21, Thursday, in Karachi, aimed at opposing the construction of six new canals on the River Indus and amendments to the IRSA Act. The initiative, led by JUI Sindh’s provincial Amir, Maulana Abdul Qayoom Halijvi, follows ongoing discussions and meetings across political and religious factions.

The decision to host the APC was made during a JUI meeting under the chairmanship of Maulana Abdul Qayoom Halijvi. As part of their preparation, JUI’s provincial leadership, including Deputy Amir Qari Muhammad Usman, Provincial Finance Secretary Maulana Muhammad Ghayas, and Deputy Information Secretary Maulana Samiul Haq Swati, have been actively engaging with representatives from various political and religious parties.

They have visited the central office of the Ahl-e-Sunnat wal Jamaat, where they met with its central president, Allama Aurangzeb Farooqi, as well as the provincial president of the Central Muslim Party, Professor Faisal Nadeem, and central leader of Jamaat-e-Ulama Pakistan, Mufti Muhammad Ghous Sabri, to invite them to participate in the APC.

In a related development, JUI-Sindh’s Secretary-General, Allama Rashid Mehmood Soomro, announced plans to consult leading scholars and clerics for a fatwa on the human rights violations tied to the proposed project. The initiative also aims to draw attention to the environmental and social implications, highlighting concerns over the destruction of 4 million acres of fertile land in Sindh and the conversion of productive land into barren territory.

The conference is expected to garner wide political and religious support to oppose the canal construction project, which is seen as detrimental to both the people and the environment of Sindh.
