Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly, Ali Khurshidi, has expressed grave concern over the ineffective functioning of the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB). Khurshidi highlighted that due to the board’s failure to manage solid waste, Karachi and the rest of Sindh are plagued by heaps of garbage scattered across the region. Despite the establishment of the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board a decade ago, Khurshidi pointed out, the cleanliness situation has not seen any notable improvement.
He criticized the government for not implementing the provisions of the Solid Waste Act over the past 10 years. “Instead of improving the waste management system, the current management is busy indulging in corruption,” said Khurshidi. He also accused the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) of awarding labor contracts in the solid waste sector to individuals with political connections, further exacerbating the issue. Khurshidi emphasized that while the board was supposed to address the growing waste problem, it has failed to bring about any meaningful change, leaving the people of Karachi and Sindh to bear the brunt of its inefficiency.
