RAWALPINDI – The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 ahead of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally in Swabi.

The provincial government tookswift action in response to the PTI’s planned grand party jirga and rally in Swabi.

The security was tightened in Rawalpindi and surrounding areas, although the PTI leaders and workers have no plan of any rally or gathering in Punjab.

The Punjab government imposed Section 144 in Rawalpindi city, banned all forms of public gatherings, rallies, processions and the display of weapons.

A formal notification was issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi, Hassan Waqar Cheema, stating that the restrictions would be enforced from November 8 to 10.

The authorities heightened security across the region, with Rawalpindi and Attock police placed on high alert to handle any situation that may arise from PTI convoys departing from Punjab. Although, the PTI leaders and workers have no plan to stage any rally or protest in Punjab; they have announced just to reach Swabi for their rally and gathering.

The Central Police Office Lahore has deployed a specialized force comprising 1,500 officers from various law enforcement agencies, including Punjab Constabulary and Highway Patrol Police. These officers have been placed under the command of Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi, with a formal directive issued to ensure the effective handling of any potential disturbances.

In a bid to deal with any possible unrest, the police have been equipped with tear gas shells and other anti-riot equipment.

The Rawalpindi City Police Office (CPO) and the Attock District Police Officer (DPO) have been tasked with organizing logistical support including transportation, fuel, food and accommodation for the deployed officers.
