Govt announces public holiday on November 9

ISLAMABAD – The federal government has announced a public holiday on November 9, Saturday, across Pakistan on account of Allama Iqbal Day.

The government has issued a notification in this regard.

Meanwhile, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has also announced a bank holiday for all public and private banks, development financial institutions, and microfinance banks (MFBs) across the country on November 9.

The central bank has conveyed the decision to the presidents and chief executives of all banks, stating that all banks will remain closed on Saturday.

The banks would resume operations on November 11 as there is weekly holiday on Sunday, November 10.

However, essential services and systems related to interbank transactions will continue without interruption to facilitate the customers.

Iqbal day is observed every year on November 9 with national fervour to pay homage to great poet, Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal.

The Philosopher poet known as Poet of the East, Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal was born in Sialkot on November 9, 1877.

He awakened the Muslims of the Subcontinent through his universal poetry and political acumen by presenting idea of the creation of Pakistan through his historic address at Allahabad in 1930.
