WASHINGTON – Republicans have secured majority in Senate as they have won 13 out of 33 contested seats in US Elections 2024, international media reported.

Republicans already held 38 seats, which were not up for re-election this year. Now, their tally has reached to 51 after winning 13 seats in 100-seat Senate, according to AP projections.

The development comes as Democratic incumbent Sherrod Brown suffered defeat in Ohio and the incumbent Republican Ted Cruz secured win over Democratic rival Colin Allred.

Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and her Republican rival, Donald Trump, are in the tight race as projection results for US Presidential Election 2024 started rolling in as polling closed in all states except west coast.

Trump takes a strong lead with projected wins in several states, securing 230 Electoral votes. Kamala Harris trails with 205 electoral votes with tight race continues in key battlegrounds, according to media reports.

All eyes are on the key swing state of Georgia, where officials are counting votes. More than four million residents have cast their votes in early ballots in the state.

US election results are declared state-by-state and so far the two candidates have bagged various states,
which have historically supported either Democratic or Republican.
