A tragic incident in Karachi’s Razzaqabad area resulted in the deaths of two labourers and left one critically injured during the installation of a pole-mounted transformer (PMT). Rescue sources reported that the landslide occurred while the workers were digging a hole approximately 20 to 25 feet deep for the transformer. Rescue officials promptly transported the injured individual and the deceased to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. The identities of the victims have not yet been confirmed, but police stated that the labourers were engaged in PMT connection work when the landslide struck. This devastating event brings to mind similar tragedies in Karachi’s history, such as the landslide in Gulistan-e-Johar in 2015, which resulted in the loss of 13 lives, including seven children and three women. In 2022, another landslide affected a section of Shahrah-e-Noor Jehan Road near the Kati Pahari area, partially blocking the road for traffic. The frequency of such incidents raises concerns about safety measures during construction and excavation activities in vulnerable areas.
