LAHORE – The Punjab government has set up a ‘Smog War Room’ as Lahore’s average Air Quality Index reached 309 on Tuesday.
Officers of eight relevant departments will be part of the ‘Smog War Room’ established at the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) headquarters in Lahore.
As per the notification issued by the EPA Director General Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh, officers of EPA, Transport, Agriculture Extension, Local Government & Community Development, Lahore Waste Management Company, and Urban Unit will meet at the ‘Smog War Room’ twice a day (9:30 am and 9:00 pm) to analyze data and future forecast.
The committee shall brief the EPA DG and relevant stakeholders about the smog situation and its mitigation measures. It will also evaluate the performance of field officers of different departments engaged in smog mitigation activities and issue necessary directions to them.
Daily advisory will be prepared by the Incharge of Smog War Room and the same will be issued with the approval of the EPA DG.
