Pakistan Railways (PR) is set to operate a special train service from Karachi to Raiwind, aimed at enhancing public convenience. According to the Ministry of Railways, the inaugural train, consisting of 14 economy-class coaches, will depart from Karachi on November 6 at 1:30 PM and is scheduled to arrive in Raiwind around 8:00 AM on November 7. The initiative is part of PR’s strategy to generate approximately 8.5 million rupees from this special service and contribute to its revenue target of over Rs100 billion for the upcoming fiscal year 2024-25. Earlier this year, Pakistan Railways reported record revenues of Rs88 billion for the 2023-24 fiscal year, which ended on June 30. This figure represents a remarkable 40% increase compared to the previous year and surpasses the target of Rs73 billion. The revenue breakdown indicates that Rs47 billion was generated from ticket sales, Rs28 billion from freight services, and Rs13 billion from leasing railway land and other revenue sources. Pakistan Railways CEO Amir Ali Baloch expressed appreciation to passengers for their confidence in PR services, highlighting the success of Eid special trains, which saw a 100% booking rate. He attributed the revenue growth to significant improvements in services provided by the railways.
