Police claim arrest of man involved in bank robberies, murder of two persons in capital

The Islamabad Police on Monday announced the arrest of the man accused of murdering two employees of a local restaurant in G-9/4 Peshawar Morr during a bank robbery.

The same day he had struck another bank in Sector G-14 and in both incidents he had targeted the cash vans.

The 24-year old is reportedly associated with a religious party and also involved in robberies in the past.

Addressing a press conference at the Rescue 15 Office in G-8 Sector, Deputy Inceptor General (DIG) of Police Syed Ali Raza shared the details of the day-and-night work by the police team, scrutiny of the CCTV footages and Safe City cameras under the probe head, SP Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Rukhsar Mehdi and his team members also from the CIA and the CTD and the dramatic arrest of the mysterious killer who was arrested from Sargodha.

The accused is a ‘history sheeter’ and has been arrested in the past for robbery and other charges, said the DIG.

It was not easy as there was apparently one man involved in three bank robberies (in one bank of Sector G-15 on October 28 and in two banks of Sectors G-14 and G-9/4 on October 29) with the help of a Kalashnikov and riding a motorbike, he said.

The DIG further informed that the robber had worked as electrician in Islamabad for more than three years. During this period he came to know closely all the streets, alleys and sectors of the city and particularly kept an eye on the timings of the cash vans that bring money to the banks.

The man is also inspired by movies and wanted to perform robbery as shown in the films.

However, the police investigation team using latest technology of geo-fencing and first traced the house where he lived in a suburban locality of Islamabad.

A meber of the JIT told Pakistan Observer that upon breaking into the house the team found ‘white joggers’ and the Kalashnikov which the man had used in the robbery and upon investigation from the house owner we came to know the house was rented to a Sargodha-based man.

This is something that took the police team closer to the accused and finally they succeeded in arresting him from his house and also recovered the looted money.
